Our recent article of memories from St. James Baths and its illustrious musical past certainly struck a chord with readers.

This group of fine gentlemen (below) are The New Grand Embassy Band who were regular visitors to the venue apparently.

The Big Band Sound was indeed a big attraction in town and the baths were a top spot. We know their names too, peeping out from the left but only just is Phil Grainger on piano, next to him is band leader and drummer Ron Hirst.

On the back row is Ken Huckerby on trumpet, so is Derrick Lloyd, Alan Halsall next with his trombone.

On to the front row now and left to right is Charlie Rimmer, Roy Foster and Don Crosby all on saxophone.

The year is 1959/60 the golden era of the band and the baths. People quite simply loved the sound as they still do today.
