BBC’S flagship religious programme Songs of Praise is set to bring its annual School Choir Competition to Sheffield City Hall’s Irwin Mitchell Oval on Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6.

Currently in its ninth year the competition pits the best school choirs in the land against one another as they attempt to win the coveted trophy “Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year”.

Twelve schools from across the UK will be taking part; six in the junior competition and six in the senior category.

The judging line up for the competition include pop singer and vocal coach to the stars David Grant; the self styled people’s tenor Russell Watson who will also be performing his own show at Sheffield City Hall on Wednesday 30 March; and conductor, musician, choir master, teacher and performer Suzi Digby.

Aled Jones will present all three of the programmes which include the Junior Semi Final on the Saturday and the Senior Semi Finals on the Sunday all of which will air on BBC 1 on March 27, April 3 and April 10.
