TV and theatre star Sheridan Smith had cause to celebrate when she went on a family holiday and her parents renewed their wedding vows.

Colin and Marilyn Smith decided to mark their 47th year together during a one week Mediterranean cruise with daughter Sheridan and son Damian.

Marilyn, of Epworth, explained: “It was a last minute thing, we had discussed it before but hadn’t really planned it.

“We had both our children with us and we were in the middle of the Med on a cruise liner so we decided to do it. It was absolutely amazing.”

The ceremony was carried out by the ship’s captain in the on-board wedding chapel.

But it was not all just relaxing for Sheridan, 31, who used to perform at Doncaster Civic Theatre as a youngster and whose parents were well-known performers on the clubland circuit in Doncaster..

For she took her scripts with her for her lead role in Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler at London’s Old Vic in September.
