WE’RE going back to school for part of our trip down Memory Lane this week.

Times reader Iris Hopper, 78, of Goldthorpe, kindly brought the two picture into our Mexborough office to share with you.

One of the photographs shows 100 attentive students sitting alongside their stern-looking teachers in preparation for an assembly at Dearneside School in 1938.

In the other image we can see junior and senior members of the Salvation Army gathering to pose for a picture outside their church on Straight Lane, Goldthorpe, in 1949.

Mrs Hopper said: “These photos brought back a lot of memories for me, and I’m sure they will for a lot of other people as well.”
