Say Halle-lujah for a new season

THE Halle has taken over programming Sheffield's full season of international concerts, for 2009/10 – and what a season it promises to be!

The orchestra has lined up an array of well-established worldwide talent, in terms of both orchestras and soloists.

And East Midlands Trains have also been signed up – as the season's official sponsors.

Sir Mark Elder, the Halle's resident Music Director, will accompany the orchestra to open the season, when the first concert takes place on Sunday, September 27.

This will mark the first of six Halle concerts as the orchestra once again forms the backbone of the season.

Two international delights of the season will be concerts by the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, alongside concerts led by five of Britain's top symphony orchestras – including the BBC Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Halle has also cued up several outstanding soloist performances – including pianist Lars Vogt, violinist Viviane Hagner, and return performances by Natasha Paremski and Alisa Weilerstein.

Among the young talent on display, Charlie Siem and Jack Liebeck both make their Oval Hall debuts, while trumpeter Alison Balsom provides one of the most eagerly anticipated performances, having recently won

Female Artist of the Year at the Classic FM Awards.

Sheffield International Concert Season also continues to promote the city's home grown classical talent – with three appearances from the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus.

Single tickets to all concerts in the 2009/2010 season are now available, and season's subscriptions can still be purchased.
