Pub of the Week
The Mayflower pub in Austerfield.
It seems the people of South Yorkshire love a bit of a drive out into the countryside when seeking food and drink.
The Mayflower is another hidden gem, a relatively short journey down the A1 or through Tickhill, tucked away in the historic village of Austerfield famed for its connections with the famous Pilgrim Fathers.
Thankfully, current owners Rob and Lou Hudson decided to revert back to the “Blue Peter” style emblem for their sign instead of the previous short lived offering of a plant. That simple alteration, along with a whole lot of hard work is now paying dividends and The Mayflower bar and eatery is quite simply a fine dining experience whether you fancy something tasty and relatively quick during the day or perhaps a more leisurely and adventurous menu in the evening.
The choice of food is entirely up to you and that’s the beauty.
But there’s much more to this hostelry.
There is a function room for that special occasion or why not have a really memorable visit and stop the night in the boutique rooms, four beautiful bedrooms recently completed to the highest standard and comfort.
But it’s perhaps the eating and drinking that most will seek and this is the place to call.
