A COUNCIL-owned site at George Street, Darfield, is to be sold off to a housing association, to be used for affordable housing.

Negotiations have begun with Yorkshire Housing Association, with a view to their acquiring this site, along with one at Sheerien Close, Athersley.

Together, they will provide 59 new affordable homes for rent, split equally between social rent and the newer affordable rental levels. Barnsley Council will retain the usual nomination rights in terms of lettings.
