Have your say on significant development plan for Barnsley
BARNSLEY Council is now seeking residents’ opinions on a new draft document that gives details of proposed development sites for the borough. These proposals will potentially affect everyone who lives, works or invests in Barnsley.
The Development Sites and Places Development Plan Document is now going out to public consultation and people can give their views by visiting Barnsley Your Community and completing a survey.
The Development Sites and Places DPD forms part of the Local Development Framework, has a statutory planning purpose and is crucial in making 681 hectares of land available for economic development for growing the Barnsley economy as set out in the Economic Strategy 2012-2033.
It also identifies 408 hectares of land for possible housing sites, which reflects the aspiration for a range of sites to bring forward the right housing mix and quality homes to increase the prosperity of the borough.
The document sets out proposals, with maps, and considers the future use and designation of every single piece of land within the borough for the next 15 to 20 years and also contains some general and site-specific policies. Together with the Core Strategy it will be used to make decisions on planning applications.
Maps accompanying the document also show the extent of green belt, town centres, safeguarded land, green space, minerals, advanced learning centres, canals and designations relating to the historic environment and biodiversity and geodiversity, amongst other things.
The formal consultation period is scheduled to run until Friday September 28. During that time the council will seek the views of the community and all interested parties as part of this process. Those views will then be considered before any decisions are made.
