Rotherham parks have retained their ‘Green Flag’ status – awarded to the best green spaces in the country.

Rother Valley Country Park, Clifton Park, Bradgate Park, Rosehill Victoria Park and Thrybergh Country Parks were all honoured in the national award scheme.

The Green Flag status is awarded only to parks deemed to be welcoming, healthy, safe, secure, clean and well maintained.

They also have to encourage local community involvement and be well managed.

Rotherham Council’s cabinet member for culture and tourism Coun Amy Rushforth said: “This award validates the amazing work both officers and friends’ groups have put in to making these green spaces great places to be.

“Our Green Spaces Rangers, grounds maintenance and street cleansing teams are committed to creating safe and welcoming parks. Keeping these five flags flying high is a massive reward for all those hours of hard work.”

Coun Amy Rushforth added: “I’ve no doubt they will continue to keep standards sky-high so that we can keep these flags flying proudly over our parks far into the future.”

The Green Flag Award, set up in 1996, is the benchmark national standard for free-to-enter parks and green spaces across the country.
