Wath Morris visited The Woodman in Swinton combining their weekly dance outing with their monthly song and music session.

The dancing was followed by a music and song session in the pub, an event which happens regularly on the first Wednesday of every month (next is July 6).

The event started three years ago after a summer dance-out and has continued since. Initially it was just the morris team singing and playing a selection of traditional and contemporary songs, but with the passage of time more locals have become involved and tried their hand at song, music or rhyme and the session now attracts artistes from across the region.

Bagman Tim Binns said: “What makes this such an excellent evening is the breadth of music and song, the quality of the performances and the warm welcome always extended by the landlord and his staff, who always provide a free chip-butty supper or similar.

“ On Tuesday dance-outs the team usually perform informally inside the pub after dancing, but this evening has just rolled on to a monthly event, gathering momentum over time.”

Saturday (June 11) will see the team performing at Barnbrough Summer Carnival and on Tuesday June 14, the team will be at the Dunkirk, Denby Dale and the George in Upper Denby.
