Our trip down memory lane this week brings us to a former tug-of-war team that was popular in the Isle of Axholme throughout the 1970s and 80s.
The junior division of the Owston Ferry team was said to have travelled long distances to compete against teams from all over the country.
In return, other top teams used to visit the village for competitions.
The pictures were taken by resident Paul Snow, pictured right, and is the first batch in a series of photographs he has kindly supplied to us. The 73-year-old retired machine worker, of Trent House, High Street, Owston Ferry, said: “The picture was just taken on the playing fields in Owston Ferry sometime in the late 1970s or early 80s.
“I just happened to be there and they asked me to take a photograph so I did.
“I’m not sure what happened to them, but back in the day they were a very successful team I remember.”
He added: “I’m not sure of the lads’ names in the photographs but if anyone who knows who they are, or the people themselves want to get in touch, then I would gladly have a chat with them.”
