Isle star Sheridan shines yet again!

THERE’S just no stopping Sheridan Smith!
For the Epworth star of seamless transition, from comedy to dark drama, has yet another award for her collection.
The 31-year-old Isle darling was voted best actress by the public, for her unique portrayal in the coveted and highly challenging role of Hedda Gabler at the Old Vic, at Sunday’s Whatsonstage.com awards.
Hedda Gabler is a 1890 play by Henrik Ibsen about a free-spirited newlywed, bored and restricted by both marriage and life’s conventions.
One of Sheridan’s biggest fans, her mum Marilyn, journeyed to London for the ceremony.
We asked about her daughter’s reaction to her latest gong.
“She was overwhelmed by the response she got,” said Marilyn, of Station Road. “Hedda was a demanding role, very heavy going, but Sheridan got right under the skin of the character and was pleased in the end with what she did.
“To have that vindicated by the people who went to see her truly delighted her.
“She’s astonished at the feedback she gets to her performances.”
And she added, her daughter was in awe of those nominated for best actress, including Julie Walters and Billie Piper.
She has just finished filming a televised series of character studies, Dates, for which she was brunette. But at the awards, she was blonde as she exuded shimmering glamour in a short silver dress.
“It took all of Saturday afternoon to get her hair blonde for the ceremony,” revealed Marilyn. “She was given a choice of outfits and chose the silver.
“But Sheridan’s very down to earth. She’s still the same girl who loves to come home and see her friends at Epworth.”
Sunday’s awards ceremony took place at London’s Palace Theatre.
More than 60,000 people took part in the voting. Immediately after the celebrations Sheridan tweeted: “Thanku my amazin twit fam! I love u! Not only did u vote me best actress tonight u screamed everytime I walked on.I love u so much! X”
Afterwards she added: “They are the best awards to me. You usually have a panel of experts but the fact that it is voted for by the paying public means it is so special.”
Sheridan now has to fit in a quick trip to the States, and there will be an announcement soon about the role she has landed in a musical - that has been kept tightly under wraps.
Later this year, the star who has enjoyed success in blockbuster Quartet, alongside Dame Maggie Smith and comic Billy Connolly, will host the Olivier Awards.
