How not to be given the brush off

AS summer time comes and thoughts turn to home improvements, the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) is reminding householders in Yorkshire of the benefits of selecting a member of the trade body to carry out works, to ensure a quality finish.

Before being accepted for membership of the PDA, companies and individuals are rigorously vetted and prospective members have to fulfil a number of requirements, including the production of evidence of more than five years’ experience in the industry. They are also obliged to carry adequate public liability insurance and references.

Once accepted, members are then subjected to random checks to ensure high standards are maintained.

The PDA - the UK’s largest trade and employers’ association for contractors in the industry - also investigates all complaints made against any members and endeavours to resolve any disputes through mediation.

Neil Ogilvie, chief executive of the PDA, said: “Painters and decorators come into people’s homes and customers want to know that person or company is to be trusted.

“The Association is proud of its long history and high standards, and the fact a registered member can be relied upon to do a good professional job at a fair price.

“Ultimately, members are qualified, fully insured and able to produce work of quality. They are also conversant with the latest technology and work to a code of practice, offering security and confidence to customers of the value of selecting a PDA member.”

Householders wanting to find out more can contact the PDA’s headquarters in Nuneaton and request the latest leaflet ‘In The Hands Of The Professionals,’ which introduces the work of the Association and its members.
