World-renowned axeman Joe Bonamassa will be a true guitar hero to one lucky South Yorkshire child, after promising a £3,500 scholarship for four years of expert guitar tuition.

Bonamassa has teamed up with Eccleshall-based Harmony Music School to fund guitar lessons for a child from a disadvantaged background until they turn 16.

And they are even throwing in a free guitar!

The school is taking entries from any child aged 10 to 12, who is entitled to free school meals or who is in care. No musical knowledge or experience is required.

The successful child will need to attend in Eccleshall once a week for the one-to-one lesson.

Bonamassa said: “If there’s not a new generation of kids playing this music, there won’t be a new generation of fans. And that will ultimately hurt guitar music and roots music in general”.

To apply, email Aubrey Robinson on info@harmonymusic school.co.uk, before February 28, with names of the child, their parent or guardian, and their main teacher, their school, age, contact details and the reason the child wants guitar lessons.
