A beautiful new country park is officially opening in Royston, Barnsley, on Saturday (April 23).

Rabbit Ings Country Park, on Lund Hill Lane, is welcoming families to come and celebrate at a fun day, which will run from 11am-4pm.

There will be a wide range of activities suitable for all ages, including a bouncy castle, climbing tower, free face painting, an Easter Egg Hunt and even a kite workshop.

Younger visitors can also bring along their brave teddy bears for special parachuting contests which will take place throughout the day.

Local organisations will be setting up their stalls with the chance to discover everything the site has to offer through guided walks.

A range of refreshments will be available, including a hog roast.

The park is a 66-hectare (163 acres) public open space located on the former pithead and tip of the Monckton and Royston collieries.

Free parking, with easy access for the disabled, is available in the Monckton Coking Works car park on Lund Hill Lane, opposite the park.
