London, New York, Paris... Bawtry. Fashion is set to make a big impact on the Doncaster town from today.

Bawtry is holding its own fashion week in boutiques and shops, with the first of a number of fashion shows starting today.

The event will go on to feature fashion shows at several of the local designer retailers, and even a contest to discover a model.

Bawtry Fashion Week has been organised by Bawtry Retail Association, whose members believe it will show why independent retailers are the best place to shop and socialise.

Rebecca Dickenson, chair of Bawtry Retail Association, said: “Bawtry has an eclectic mix of retail outlets and a vibrant social scene and we were keen to celebrate this while giving our fashion retailers the chance to shine.

“We have such a fantastic range of designer labels where you can find everything from underwear and swimwear to stunning outfits including casual, occasion and racing wear for men and women as well as amazing accessories such as handbags, jewellery and sunglasses.”

Retailers taking part include Robinsons of Bawtry, whose labels include Armani Collezioni, Moschino and Mulberry; Yasmine of Bawtry, which is celebrating 40 years in business in April; and Incognito which sells Roberto Cavalli, Michael Kors and Airfield.

Bars and restaurants are also getting involved, with a Bawtry Fashion Week champagne cocktail created by Oli Clark of Coco Ice Cocktail Bar which will be available at participating bars and eateries throughout the week.

Other businesses across the town are supporting the week with food and drink offers, including The Crown Hotel, Classic and Contemporary Cake Shop, Caviars, China Rose and NYC Bar and Grill with an ‘after show’ party hosted by Ziniz this Saturday.

Bawtry Retail Association was formed at the end of 2011 by a small group of retailers.

Since then, Rebecca says, the group has grown in stature and recognition within the local community.

She said it was inspired by the Mary Portas review to allow independent businesses on the high street to flourish by working together.
