Concert is the final gig at leisure centre
THE Classic Rock Society's concerts will move to Wath as Herringthorpe Leisure Centre hosts its last ever gig on Saturday.
September 6 sees the 165th and last ever gig at Herringthorpe Leisure Centre, when the Classic Rock Society host Norwegian band, Magic Pie.
CRS member Martin Hudson said: "The HLC is the latest South Yorkshire landmark to fall to 'progress'. It will be greatly missed by members of the Classic Rock Society," said Martin Hudson of the CRS. "There are a lot of memories held in this building, of great bands, of new bands, of friends and of some fantastic music. This is the end of an era."
Magic Pie are the latest of the Classic Rock Society's 'new to the UK' bands. Formed in 2001 they have a growing fan base in the UK who are keen to see them play closer to home.
The Magic Pie sound takes influences from Spocks Beard, Deep Purple, Yes, Dream Theater, Pink Floyd, Kansas, Flower Kings and Uriah Heep all mixed in a musical 'pie'.
Supporting Magic Pie on Saturday are The Fry Brothers, otherwise known as Chris and Dan from Magenta.
Classic Rock Society gigs will continue at the Montgomery Hall, Wath upon Dearne and at the Manor Barn in Kimberworth. The next gig is Panic Room, Final Conflict and Dead Like Harry at the Montgomery Hall on 13th September.
