Bull in a China shop?
THE combined splendour of ancient China and the Coliseum of Rome come to Sheffield Lyceum as Ellen Kent & Amphitheatre Productions' Turandot and Carmen glide onto the stage from Monday, June 29 to Wednesday, July 1.
Ellen Kent presents Turandot in celebration of Pavarotti's life, highlighting the unforgettable Nessun Dorma.
Ellen was inspired by Pavarotti's performance at the 1990 World Cup to produce her first opera in 1993, and this traditional production will be performed by international soloists alongside the full Chisinau National Philharmonic Orch-estra and Chorus.
Turandot is the story of the cold-hearted princess, surrounded by suitors who face death if they fail to answer her riddle correctly. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
Carmen, as never before seen, will be staged in a bullring for a new spectacular twist to Bizet's famous and seductive opera.
The Lyceum will be transformed into a Spanish spectacular reminiscent of the real bullrings in Spain, with bull fighters and a brass band parading through the venue into the Seville bullring to start this must see performance.
Carmen guest stars international flamenco dancer Sam Quy, as seen at the Royal Opera House accompanied by the well known Spanish flamenco singer Fernando de Sevilla. Sung in French with English subtitles.
