Landlord/landlady name: Mark and Lynne Mason

How long has the pub been open?: The Haxey Gate Inn has been depicted on an old map as long ago as 1853 it has in its time been known as The Bridge Gate Inn and more recently The Gate Inn

How long has the current landlord/landlady been in place?: We left the Crooked Billet, Owston Ferry almost five years ago.

What beers do you sell?: We have Batemans XB as a permanent feature, the other three hand-pulled cask ales are ever changing, one of them is always a black beer (mild, stout or porter). Henrietta from Welbeck Abbey Brewery is getting more frequent due to customer demand.

What special nights do you run?: We do two beer battered fish & chips for only £8 on a Thursday this is proving very popular especially on the warm summer nights when people can sit out on the riverside.

Tell us about your food: We do food all day every day serving from midday till 8pm, extended to 8.30pm on Friday and Saturday. We do all the pub favourites from steak and ale pie (£7.95) to lasagne (8.95) to fish and chips (from £4.25).

What is your favourite tipple?: I (Mark) am a cask ale fanatic, if you see me in the pub drinking a half or two of the fine cask ale I’m only making sure it’s good enough for the customers to drink. Lynne is into red wines, or a long G&T.

If you go out for a meal where’s your favourite spot and what would you choose off the menu?: The Elachi Indian in Armthorpe is one of our favourites, but we also like Chinese food we had a really nice meal at Burton Water only last week.

If you go out for a drink which is your favourite pub? Anywhere really so long as the beer is great!

The Haxey Gate Inn is in Haxey Road, Misterton. Call 01427 890746 or visit www.haxeygate.co.uk for more information on the venue.
