NEW mothers can get back into shape in a sporting environment with their baby as part of a new programme at a Doncaster leisure centre.
The Dome is launching its Yummy Tummies fitness class where mothers can exercise in group outdoor power walks with babies in buggies.
The Dome has joined forces with Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to offer the weekly classes.
Michelle Garrison, community sports manager, said: “The weekly sessions are a great way for new mums to get fit; a dietetic trained food educator will be there each week to offer weight loss support and also healthy lifestyle midwives will be on hand at The Dome the first session of each month to offer weight loss support and advice.”
Yummy Tummies was the brainchild of healthy lifestyle midwives Carolyn Garland and Alison Williams.
Carolyn said: “We are involved in a specialist ante-natal clinic which supports overweight women with weight management during their pregnancy, and we found that women wanted a more specific weight loss group after the birth of their baby that was just for new mums.
“We wanted to encourage the mums to feel welcome and comfortable and so we felt The Dome was an ideal location for the new group as it helps new mums get over that barrier of going to a gym for the first time after the birth.”
Sessions are £1.60 and will begin at 9.45am every Wednesday.
