Patients' concerns over GP services

Published Date: 07 August 2008
IN RECENT weeks a number of patients from right across the constituency have contacted me who have been very troubled by information they appear to have been given about GP services being under threat.
Some of them are among the most vulnerable people in our community, who derive a great deal of comfort from a trusted relationship with their doctor.

Such information is misleading: as the PCT chief executive has repeatedly reassured me and GPs, the PCT has no intention of changing the way patients access their doctor or removing the GP surgery of their choice.

Rather than cutting back on GP services, in fact new investment or extra investments means two new practices are planned for Rotherham.

These improvements will give patients easier access to a greater choice of high quality services, and people will continue to receive the personal attention of trusted GPs. For families with young children, people with disabilities, people with long term conditions and older people this will be of particular benefit.

I hope this will set to rest any concern or uncertainty that may be in the mind of patients or GPs.

John Healey MP
Constituency Office
High Street, Wath
