LEUKAEMIA CARE is appealing to local athletics and football clubs to organise an incredibly fun Christmas event that brings people of all ages and abilities together to raise money for a great cause.
The national charity does a fantastic job supporting those affected by all forms of blood and lymphatic cancer, particularly through its unique 24-hour CARE Line. However, as we are not funded by the government, we rely on fundraising events and our
team of volunteers to help us continue providing this vital service.
For a number of years we have been helping to organise Santathons – which see hundreds of santas take part in a hilarious 5km route around the participating towns. Last year, the event raised a massive £28,000 for the charity across the five venues that took part and this money gives us a real boost for the following year. This year we are hoping to get even more towns and cities involved across the nation to make this our best year ever and to smash last year's fundraising figure.
Most importantly we are hoping to highlight the have-a-go element of the event rather than the running element, so that would-be participants aren't scared off by the thought of any distance and simply get round it any way they like; stroll it, walk it, run it!
So if any of your readers know of a local club that has a committee willing to organise such an event, we'd love to hear from them and to have the opportunity to provide further information on what is involved.
