Concerned over rightwing surge
WE, the undersigned, are obviously concerned about local election results in South Yorkshire where it is evident that there has been a significant vote for parties that are hostile to migrants.
This may not be surprising if you consider the hostile media coverage towards migrants and the widespread ignorance of benefits that migration brings to the region. We are concerned that there could be a reaction by other mainstream political parties locally and nationally to believing that the economic regeneration of South Yorkshire can be maintained without continuing migration to the area. What we need to sort is how we all share the benefits of migration.
Perhaps what is needed is a time for reflection by mainstream parties then an honest debate about the pros and cons of migration and we hope that this is possible within South Yorkshire over the coming months.
