For the last time they visited South Yorkshire, the world-famous quartet were involved in a serious car crash on the M1.

Patrick Alan, who joined the band in 1990, suffered head injuries in the crash, that happened when the band's car hit another vehicle that had crashed after swerving to avoid a deer, near Rotherham.

The other three band members – Peter Lamarr, Victor Bynoe and Rohan Turney – escaped with less serious injuries – though a police officer said at the time: "It is quite astonishing that we were not dealing with a fatal collision given the nature of the incident".

This time around, the Doncaster audience can look forward to an almost endless string of classic hits, that include Under the Boardwalk, Save The Last Dance For Me, Come On Over To My Place, Saturday Night at the Movies, and Kissin' in the Back Row of the Movies.

The show is part of the band's UK tour, and it coincides with the release of their new album, The Drifters: Five Decades & Moore – in memory of the late great Johnny Moore.

The Drifters have undergone multiple line-up changes since it originally formed in 1953.
