AUTHOR and historian Ken Wyatt will lead a tour of St Margaret's Churchyard in Swinton on Saturday (September 6).
The nine acre churchyard is one of the biggest in the country and the tour will include visits to the graves of the town's most famous sons including many artists, potters and sporting personalities.

Councillor Wyatt, who has written a guide to the churchyard, said: "Churchyards can help tell the story of a community through the memorials to its past citizens.

"This will be a history lesson in stone while having a nice walk and enjoying the plants and animals which make our churchyard their home."

The tour is part of 'Heritage Weekend' in which churches and old buildings across South Yorkshire will be opening their doors for tours and various other events.

The tour will start at the main door of St Margaret's Church at 3pm and those attending are advised to wear suitable footwear.
