TRIBUTES have been paid to Scott Brookes, the promising Mexborough boxer who died in hospital after a road accident. He was 20.
In a statement to the media, Scott's family said: "Scott was a gentle giant and was very well known in the Mexborough area. He was a promising boxer and during his career had won two double ABA Championships and has captained the England team in the Four Nations competitions.
"He was a perfect person and we cannot understand why this happened.
"He was much loved and will be sadly missed by all."
Former boxer Mark Brookes, who is no relation to Scott, trained him from the start of his professional career.
He said: "All I can say is that it's a massive loss to the community because he's just an awesome kid."
