FEARLESS adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes was on hand to present a prestigious award to a Doncaster school.

Hill House School in Auckley has been named the Independent School of the Year 2012 following a host of key developments.

Sir Ranulph, who was the first person to visit both the North and South Poles by surface means and the first to completely cross Antarctica on foot, presented the Sixth Avenue school with this year’s National Independent School Awards in Birmingham

Hill House was recognised for a number of improvements made in the last five years including the relocation to the old RAF Finningley base, its new sixth form centre and impressive exam results which put the school in the top four performing schools in Yorkshire.

Headteacher David Holland said: “To be selected from over 2,000 independent schools throughout the country, and to come through a very strong shortlist including some very famous schools, is a tremendous achievement. It reflects the great, hard-work and support of staff, children, parents and governors, and it is a wonderful example of how much Doncaster has of which to be proud.”
