BARNSLEY poet, Ian McMillan is conducting today's (Thurs) assembly at Gooseacre Primary School.

On Tuesday Kingfishers Class are having a trip to Magna while Jon Waller from Yorkshire Water will be working with pupils on a gardening project. A parents' evening will be held next Thursday.

A GROUP of pupils from Years 4 and 5 at The Hill Primary School took part in after school sports activities at Dearne High School last week. Next Thursday the nursery class will have a trip to Elsecar Heritage Centre where they will have a ride on a train.

THURNSCOE Branch Royal British Legion invite everyone to attend the re-dedication service of the newly renovated war memorial in Thurnscoe at 11am today (Thurs).

A COMPUTER Class to NVQ Level 2 is held at Thurnscoe Rainbow Centre on Wednesday mornings 10am until noon. Anyone interested can call in for full details. Other activities include: Luncheon Club Tuesdays and Fridays 12-2pm, Light Exercise Tuesdays 6-7pm followed by Yoga/Pilates 7-8pm, Casual Art Group Wednesdays 12.30-2.30pm, Local History Group Thursdays 10am-noon, Prize Bingo Thursdays 12.30-2.30pm. All welcome.

THURNSCOE Library Readers Group meet on the first Monday in the month from 10am-noon, new members always welcome.

A SPANISH language class is held at Thurnscoe Lifelong Learning Centre on Mondays from 1-3pm. Anyone interested in joining please contact the library for details.

DROP-IN sessions with Dearne Options Team are held at Thurnscoe Lifelong Learning Centre on alternate Tuesdays from 10am-noon. Members of the team are available to speak in confidence to anyone aged 20 and over on matters regarding employment and CVs, debt problems, benefits and housing. Anyone interested should ask for Margaret or Andrea.

AFTERNOON Tea Dances are being held at St Hilda's Community Hall fortnightly on Wednesdays from 2-4pm. Admission is 1.50 and includes the tea.

VOLUNTEERS are required to help out at Thurnscoe Station House Community Centre's after schools club. Anyone who would like to work with children aged from five to 11 one or more nights a week usually between the hours of 3-6pm can get more details by calling in at Station House or ringing them on 01709 880682. Applicants will be required to undertake a CRB check and provide personal references.

STATION House hold a Parents and Baby group on Wednesdays from 9.30-11.30am and playgroup meetings on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9.30-11.30am. The Toddler Club has room for new members. Sessions are held on Wednesdays from 9.30-11.30am during term times. Contact the centre for details on 01709 880682.

AN ARTS and Crafts session is held at Hickleton Youth Project on Tuesdays from 10am-noon.

SURE START hold a Funtime session at Thurnscoe Lifelong Learning Centre every Tuesday from 10am-noon.

FREE legal advice on domestic issues is available at Thurnscoe Lifelong Learning Centre every Thursday between 2 and 3pm. Call for an appointment on 01709 890001.

SEQUENCE dancing takes place at St Helen's Church Hall every Tuesday from 7pm, proceeds for church funds, all welcome. T

HE Busy Bee Craft Class meet in St Helen's Church Hall on Wednesdays from 2-4pm, new members welcome. There is also a knit and natter group meeting in the hall at the same time.
