A POPULAR market trader is bidding her fishing tackle stall farewell after 32 years on Doncaster Market.

Market Tackle stallholder Sylvia Randles was presented with armfuls of retirement gifts from her friends and colleagues on her last day trading at the Wool Market.

The 76-year-old said: “It was a lovely day. I was given a vase, five bunches of flowers, three plants for the garden and some sweets.

“I’ve got to know the other traders well over the years and some of them are like family to me.”

The grandmother-of-three, of Coleridge Road, Barnby Dun, reflected on how the market has changed over the years, saying: “I could tell a lot of stories. It’s been exciting, intriguing and very educational, as well as frustrating at times.”

Mrs had planned to work until she was 80 but decided that it was time for her to leave, adding: “I think Doncaster Council need to think about the rent they charge or they’ll be fewer and fewer stalls taken.

“Rather than spend so much on investing in new stalls, they should charge half rents to those who are there.”

In over three decades on the stall, she also raised £2,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance by selling books.
