A NEW post office has been praised for its first class service after residents were left without a site for five months.

Warmsworth residents were left upset when the previous post office closed in February after its sub postmaster resigned and then the withdrawal of premises for Post Office use.

But the new service at No1 Super Convenience Store in Mill Lane, that has extended opening hours and is just yards from the former site, is proving to be a rather special delivery for the community despite only being open a few weeks.

Tony Wormley, Warmsworth Parish Council chairman, said: “We are really hoping after the 12-month trial period it will stay open because the feedback we have had has been very positive.

“When the post office closed it didn’t go down too well with residents particularly elderly residents who had to travel to Edlington and Balby to pick their pensions up.

“I have used the service myself and I am impressed with it and the longer opening hours will be really useful for people who want to use the service after work.

“It’s not been up and running for long but the early signs are very positive.”

Don Valley MP Caroline Flint also welcomed the decision to re-open it and visited owners Jasmine Stevan and Kuganenthira Raja Mahadeva.

The new site is open from 6am to 9pm, Monday to Saturday, and Sunday from 6am to 8pm.

It operates from an open plan counter and offers various services.
