TWELVE blacklisted construction workers in Doncaster are being urged to come forward in a fight for compensation.

GMB, the union for construction workers, said the 12 are among more than 200 workers on the list from Yorkshire and Humberside – less than 10 per cent of them know they are on the list and none have been compensated.

The list first came to light in 2009, when the Information Commissioners Office seized a database of 3,213 workers which was being used by 44 companies to vet new recruits and identify possible trade union and health and safety activists.

A union spokesman said: “People have been deprived of an honest living through these illegal tactics which has blighted their families’ lives and not a single company has yet been punished.”

GMB said there were 26 workers from Sheffield, 14 from Rotherham and two from Barnsley on the list, as well as five workers in Chesterfield.

Anyone worried that they are on the blacklist can call the GMB, which can check, on 01603 742 877.
