Raise a mug for cancer charity coffee morning
MORE than 500 Doncaster people have signed up to support the Macmillan coffee morning campaign in a bid to raise tens of thousands of pounds for cancer patients.
The Free Press has teamed up with Macmillan Cancer Support with the original intention of getting 200 people to sign up - but with days to go before the event the target has been smashed.
But even if you are not hosting your own event, like the 518 people who have signed up in the borough, you can still show your support by popping into one of the many coffee morning’s that will be taking place on Friday, September 28.
Baking has already started in Bessacarr for the event at St Francis Church in Nostell Place where organisers will host the event for the second year running and aim to break the £500 barrier this year.
Lynda Crosby, organiser said: “We hope lots of Bessacarr residents will join us on Friday, September 28, between 9.30am and 12.30pm in aid of this worthwhile organisation.”
Fundraising stalwart Georgina Mullis is also inviting residents to her 22nd coffee morning celebrations where civic mayor, Coun Chris Mills will also be enjoying a cuppa at 22 Darrington Drive, Warmsworth, from 8.30am to noon.
Meanwhile staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary will be sticking the kettle on from 9.30am to 11.30am in the boardroom and last year’s fundraising champion Esquires Coffee House in Wheatley Hall Road is once again inviting customers to show their support.
Fundraising manager Amy Hebdon, said: “I would anyone who isn’t hosting a coffee morning to visit one. It’s a wonderful event, chatting to people over coffee and cake and raising money for a good cause. Each £25 raised could fund a Macmillan nurse for one hour and we would love to raise more than ever from this year’s coffee morning.”
