PUPILS from Wombwell and Darfield started their new school year in a brand new building.

Two year groups at a time were introduced to the Netherwood ALC - the opening of which completed a building programme at Barnsley worth £1 billion.

Netherwood replaces Foulstone School of Creative Arts at Darfield, and Wombwell High School, with a total 1,800 pupils.

The ALC, together with Barnsley’s new Horizon Community College, and Holy Trinity ALC was funded through the Building Schools for the Future programme.

The trio take the number of new schools to 11.
