‘Misleading’ labels cause waste
Mark Dockerty, Caroline Flint, Cllr Chris Mills, Nichola Rimmington and Sean Gibbons, Managing Director of Foodaware.
THE managing director of a social enterprise scheme is waging war on best before dates.
Managing Director of Food Aware, Sean Gibbons has set up a campaign to educate people on safely eating food which has passed its best before date.
Food aware have helped to set up foodbanks in Intake, Conisborough and across South Yorkshire, and Sean says he gives everyone who uses the foodbanks information from the NHS on how to avoid being fooled by ‘misleading food labelling.’
Sean said: “I’ve known other foodbanks who have thrown away food that’s been donated which is perfectly fine all because of a best-before date. It’s such a waste especially when there are so many in need of food, because most of the labelling you seen on food packaging is for the convenience of the shop selling it.”
He also urges people to donate best before goods, and for more information visit Food Aware
