Architecture is on agenda

The September meeting of the Crowle and Ealand Heritage Society will be a talk by Andrew Whitham of the South Yorkshire Buildings Preservation Trust.

The talk will focus on the restoration of 42 King Street in Thorne - a mid eighteenth century merchants town house.

It will place the restoration of it in the context of the Thorne Conservation Area now designated as being at risk. He will talk about some of the problems faced in trying to bring this very important historic building back in to use, and how other similarly threatened buildings remain uncared for.

Angus Townley of the Crowle & Ealand Heritage Society said: “This is sure to be an interesting talk that will appeal to many people in the area, particularly those who wish to find out more about the architecture of local buildings.”

The meeting is open to all and costs £2, which includes refreshments. The meeting will be held at the Crowle Hub, above the Library on the High Street in Crowle and will start at 7.30pm on Thursday September 13.

Crowle & Ealand Heritage Society exists to study and promote the history and heritage of Crowle in North Lincolnshire.
