PEOPLE braved snow and ice to celebrate Burns’ Night in the Isle, and to raise vital cash for Macmillan nurses.

Over 130 revellers joined the Axholme Lions at Haxey Village Hall for the event that raised a bumper £1500 to benefit local people.

Lion President James Mackinlay opened the evening with the Selkirk Grace, and Danny Shields was accompanied by pipers, to parade the Haggis and honour its presence in the traditional way, by toasting it with a glass of whisky. There were four speakers, and music from the Scunthorpe and District Pipes and Drums.

Terry Condliff of the Lions said: “We would like to thank everyone who came and those who helped the evening be so successful.”
