Good work continues thanks to £38k lifeline

A COMMUNITY hub has received a sizeable grant to allow it to continue its good work in Rawmarsh.
The busy High Street Centre has been awarded a much-needed £38,000 grant over two years, by the Lloyds TSB Foundation.
The centre offers a range of activities and support for children and young people, such as youth clubs, a summer holiday programme, outdoor trips and residentials. The centre also offers courses such as first aid training, and support for volunteers as well as after-school childcare and healthy living incentives for families.
The grant will contribute towards staff salaries and other core running costs of the charity.
Caroline Langston, the High Street Centre’s development manager said: “We are very pleased with the grant from the Lloyds TSB Foundation. The centre works with a range of disadvantaged people in the area and the grant will allow us to continue to deliver our services to the local community at our current level.
“Times are not easy for anyone just now, and we don’t want to lose any of our services to young people when many families are under financial pressure. Two of our funding streams by way of grants from Rotherham Council will end in March next year, and we’re not sure what will happen then. This latest grant gives us some security for the next two years at least.”
The centre begins several new courses and activities in January.
Pat Greenwood, grant manager for Yorkshire and the Humber said: “Charities face many challenges at the moment as funding becomes harder to secure and demand for services increases.”
