Daring duo from Maltby give up freedom to help hospice

TWO residents will be going to jail... all in the name of charity.

For Maltby duo Debbie Bonewell and Claire Hawker will be taking part in a ‘Jail and Bail’ event where they will be carted off to HMP Marshgate in a police van, changed into prison uniform and locked in a cell until they can raise enough sponsors to be bailed and walk free.

The two 34-year-olds, who have nicknamed themselves The Blue Bandits, are doing the charity fundraiser with a target of raising at least £1,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice where they are volunteers.

Schools have come forward to help with sponsorship by holding events such as coffee mornings and non-uniform days and a race night on November 24 has been sold out at The Three Tuns pub in Stainton.

Debbie said: “Both Claire and I have been volunteering for the hospice now for over a year and are extremely proud to have been able to help such a worthwhile charity.

“When the Jail and Bail fundraising event was mentioned we couldn’t resist saying yes as it was too good an opportunity to miss out on.

“We knew it would be hard work but we were both committed to raising as much money as possible and we have been getting into all sorts of mischief and having lots of laughs along the way.”

The daring duo will be arrested at the Regent Hotel, off Regent Square, in Bennetthorpe, on Thursday, November 29.
