members of Doncaster’s vibrant business community were recognised for their hard work at a glitzy awards ceremony.

The Doncaster Business Awards, which saw entries up by 85 per cent on the previous year, took place at the Doncaster Racecourse.

With nearly 700 guests in attendance, the evening was a celebration of the very best of Doncaster businesses, culminating in I-Education and One Call Insurance being crowned as Businesses of the Year ( in the less than £3m and more than £3m turnover categories respectively).

BBC Breakfast’s Business Reporter Stephanie McGovern hosted the awards, which saw the record number of entries, suggesting renewed business confidence in the town.

Deputy chief executive, Daniel Fell, commented: “The standard of entries this year was immense and all of our finalists should be congratulated.

“Our judges saw evidence of real business excellence here in Doncaster – whether that be large manufacturers exporting their goods all around the world or innovative new start up businesses.

“As such, our deserved winners needed to work really hard to come out on top and they should take great satisfaction from their achievements.

“Based on the event last night, Doncaster should take great pride in its vibrant business community.”

The winners on the night included Westfield Health which scooped the Excellence in Customer Service Award, Marketing Strategy of the Year Award went to The Crown Hotel Bawtry.

Eco warriors Boxes and Packaging (Doncaster) Ltd took home the Green Award, Young Business Person of the Year (Under 41) Award –went to John Minion (Yorkshire Wildlife Park) and Urban Entertainment Ltd won New Start Business of the Year.
